GUARANI SOCCER CLUB
In Campinas
(1 million of inhabitants and 90 kilometers from São Paulo), the Guarani Soccer
Club is one of the premier soccer clubs for professional male athletes. From
Guarani a lot of brilliant p
layers emerge for the world to see. Some
premier players include: Amaral, Julio Cesar, Mauro, Renato, Careca, Zenon,
Mauro Silva, João Paulo, Edmar, Neto, Djalminha, Amoroso, Luisão and Deco.Since
1982 the Guarani Club has developed many intramural tournaments, including
tournaments for girls. In 1983 the first girl’s soccer team was built. Then
from 1995 until the present, the women’s club has created many different
categories that never before existed in Brazil. Guarani set the example for many
other clubs around the country. There were many female categories that Guarani
participated in, including Futsal, Soccer, and Society soccer, which consist of
7 players. Social soccer is very popular in Brazil and always has a lot of
success.
In
the last 8 years, over one hundred titles have been conquered. In the state

The
U-14 team was Brazilian champions from the “Hope Games”, of 2000. The Rede
Globo (television channel) provided this tournament and it brought more than 600
teams from around the country. The Futsal team was also champs of the first South-American Futsal tournament held in Santiago Chile in 2001.
These
are just some of the titles conquered by the girls soccer team from Guarani. The
girls from Guarani have been in Utah/USA (photo) and Chile. Many teams from USA have had the
opportunity to be in Campinas, some of these teams are University of Notre Dame,
Sanford University and Union College from Kentucky.
Many
athletes from Guarani are having a change to go to USA and play soccer with a
great scholarship. Many of them are having a blast in the “land of women’s
soccer”. The biggest emphaze has been an Juliana Filipe that is the Juliana
Filipe - the All-Time Leading Goal Scorer and Points Leader in Collegiate
History. Juliana
Filipe shattered the record books during her four-year career at Union College
in becoming the queen of collegiate soccer.
Her coronation came on November 2,
2001, when she scored four goals in becoming the all-time goal scorer in
collegiate history - all divisions, all genders. Filipe finished with 145 career
goals, besting the previous mark of 137 set by Richard Sharpe of NCAA Division
II Florida Tech. In addition,
Filipe is also the collegiate record holder for
most points in a career as she compiled 340. On October 16, Filipe posted four
goals in an 8-0 win over Georgetown College in breaking the NAIA record for
career goals. George Fox's Dan LeVeine and Pacific Lutheran's Sonya Brandt were
each held the NAIA's previous record at 130 goals. The Campinas, Brazil native
broke numerous records during her time as a member of the Lady Bulldogs. She
owns or shares nine program records, four NAIA records and two collegiate
records. The school records she owns or shares are: most goals in a game (10),
most points in a game (21), most goals in a season (46), most assists in a
season (18), most points in a season (110), most game-winning goals in a season
(10), most goals in a career (145), most assists in a career (50) and most
career points (340). The NAIA records she owns or shares are: most points in a
game, points in a season, goals in a career and points in a career. Filipe is
the collegiate record holder for most goals and most points in a career. The
College honored Filipe for her accomplishments by retiring her jersey and number
at a ceremony on April 21, 2002. No other women's soccer player will ever wear
the Nº 10.
Between
2001 and 2002 six athletes from Guarani were selected to play for the Brazilian
National team U-19. This is in preparation for the first U-19 world cup held in
Canada. Many young athletes from different countries are spending their
vacations in Campinas. They are having a opportunity to know Brazilian culture,
practice, and play soccer with Brazilian players.
